Accessibility to quality healthcare: Delivery of healthcare services to two lesser Indias

The session will bring together a multi-stakeholder group comprising HSPs, policy-makers, healthcare NGOs, service providers and consultants to debate upon India's inherently varied socio-economic landscape, and its obvious impact in not only increasing healthcare infrastructure density across the country, but also, more importantly, increasing penetration of provision of healthcare services to the disparate income groups in the metros, smaller cities, and the vast rural areas.

Debate: The debate will address the role played by the respective enablers, be it industry - HSPs or vendors - or non-industry actors - policy-makers and consultants - and the challenges faced in increasing penetration of healthcare infrastructure for the bourgeoning middle and middle-upper in India’s tier I and tier II cities, and increasing penetration for the Indian Below Poverty Level (BPL) and aspirant income groups spread across India’s developing cities and rural masses.

Technical Workshop: The Technical Workshop (Part II) will look to provide solutions to the analyses derived from the Debate part of the session. It will look to address the initiatives that need to be conceived and possibly framed in order to enable greater access to healthcare services across the varied income groups across the Indian diaspora.

Recommendation: The Recommendation (Part III) will round out the session proceedings by tying together the solutions derived from the Technical Workshop into a singular cohesive vision – to provide a roadmap ahead for the issue of accessibility.

Affordability of quality healthcare: The efficiency of insurance delivery models and the role played by enablers of affordable healthcare.

This session brings together a multi-stakeholder platform comprising industry - insurance companies, vendors, and HSPs – and non-industry – policy-makers and regulators - to debate on the efficacy of the different delivery models that have been implemented and the timely policy initiatives that need to be conceived and subsequently framed to serve the diverse Indian diaspora.

Debate: Given India’s diverse population, there lie a vast range of income brackets: BPL; aspirant; the burgeoning middle; and the middle–upper. With a range of delivery models available, depending on the organization, institution, and HSP involved, and range of product offerings to cover various risks, insurance schemes have empowered households with risk-management tools to circumvent poverty in times of hardship.

Expensive medical treatment and care is a critical area that needs to be reworked given the inherently large low net worth income groups present in India, as well as a growing aspirant class in India’s tier I and tier II cities. This debate addresses the issue of the institution of the appropriate insurance or micro-insurance schemes that need to be implemented via the relevant insurance delivery mechanisms for the end-user in order to make quality treatment and care affordable.

Technical Workshop: The Technical Workshop (Part II) will look to provide solutions to the analyses derived from the Debate part of the session. It will look to address the initiatives that need to be conceived and possibly framed in order to enable affordable delivery healthcare services to the varied income groups across the Indian diaspora.

Recommendation: The Recommendation (Part III) will round out the session proceedings by tying together the solutions derived from the Technical Workshop into a singular cohesive vision – to provide a roadmap ahead for the issue of affordability.
