Dr. Raman Sardana is a Senior Consultant, Department of Microbiology at Apollo Hospitals. He also carries responsibilities such as Additional Director, Medical Services, and Chairman, Infection Control, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. He was previously the Coordinator, Laboratory Services from January 2002 to July 2008.
He completed his M.B.B.S. and post graduation (M.D. - Medical Microbiology) from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, and has been associated as a consultant with Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals for over the past 13 years.
He has been involved in many national and international studies and has got presentations and publications on HIV, Antimicrobials in clinical practice, Enterobacteriaceae and ESBLs, AmpC and non fermentors, Healthcare Associated Infections, Automation in Microbiology, Fungal infections, Blood Stream Infections and their detection, Sepsis and PCT (Procalcitonin), Infections in Organ Transplant patients, Occupational Safety in health care systems, etc.
As Coordinator for Laboratory Services and Chairman, Infection Control at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, he has been instrumental in national accreditation processes (NABL-ISO15189) for the labs and international accreditation (JCI) on account of labs and infection control throughout the institution.
He has been elected as a member of the National Executive of the Hospital Infection Society - India (HISI), and has also been the Treasurer for this Society since February 2006. He is the editor for ‘Jeevanu Times’, the official newsletter for Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists – Delhi Chapter, and was the ‘Treasurer’ for the IAMM-Delhi Chapter for six years from 2001-2007. He is currently involved with IAMM-Delhi as the ‘EQAS Coordinator’.
He has also been nominated as a member of National and State Technical Resource Groups (TRG) for Laboratory Services by the government.
He has been awarded the ‘Prashasti Patra’ by the Government of NCT of Delhi, for his efforts in Pulse Polio Programme, 1994. He was also a recipient of ‘Scroll of Honour’ from Delhi Medical Association and other Non-Government agencies for his contribution in community health projects.
